40D
This is totally off topic but I am so excited I got my new camera today from B&H. I have only been able to take a picture or two with it but I am sure it will get plenty of use. I can’t wait to go play.

The Farm
This is a shot I took a while back. It probably does not mean much to most people but to me having a “Great Uncle” take the time to lift a 4 year old into every combine and tractor on his farm is pretty cool. He took the time to explain and show him EVERYTHING. It amazes me how some of the littlest things in the world can make a little boy so happy.

We have driven past the church/school house several times and always say “that would be an awesome picture” so finally we actually stopped and took a few. I was never into history when I was younger but the more I have started doing photography it has really made me think of the past. What was life like when people attended this building everyday? What was this building used for? Why did they choose this location for it when there is nothing around? I look at all these old buildings and wonder what life was like back then. Today’s structures have so little character where I wonder what my grandkids will say someday when they see what was built in the 90’s or 2000’s. Will todays average house still be around in 75-100 years?

My Little Girl
My Little Girl
This is Libby, my little girl. She is a 9 year old Bassett Hound. Libby was originally a Mothers Day gift to Darcy but for some odd reason Libby took a liking to me right away. Now I would say she is more of a mama’s girl than anything. With Libby being almost 10 she doesn’t do much now days besides sleep. I do have to say she is a pretty good dog.

Can you guess what this is? It is a suspension deal for a train car. We visited the Duluth Train Depot and got to see some cool things. If you are ever in Duluth, MN I would highly recommend stopping by. They have tons of trains to tour along with tons of other old stuff. If you catch them from spring to fall you can even catch a little train ride.

I think this is what started my passion for photography. One day a few years ago our son went out to play after it rained. He was jumping in the puddles on the drive way and I had the thought of “oh that would be a cool picture”. So I grabbed our piece of junk point and shoot and tried catching him in the air after jumping in the puddles. Man that is a job with a point and shoot and a toddler. I think it must have taken 2o pictures and 15 minuets to get it. We decided that our kids were growing up to fast and also getting to fast to capture them with the point and shoot. So I found a good deal on a Rebel XT from New Egg and this “hobby” just keeps growing.

This is a cool old photo that I love. It is of my wife’s great grandpa working on the boat. I have no idea why someone would have taken that picture or hung on to it but it is pretty neat. It is fun to look to go back at old pictures to see what people would shoot. Now days in the digital world you shoot anything and everything but back 40 years ago film was expensive, developing was expensive so people were much more selective on what they shot. We have this picture hanging on the wall in our house as an 8x10. It is amazing that whenever family is over they are drawn to that photo and people start talking about the “old boat” or the “cabin”. I bet the person that took the photo (I still have no idea who did) never had a clue that 40-50 years later people would still be drawn to it or it would be such a conversational piece.

Jason's 365
I think I am going to try this. I know it is a little late to hit 365 for 2008 but who knows I might catch up. What I want to do is share a picture that I find is "neat" for me everyday. We will see how this goes.
